This conference is intended for central office leaders who are interested in exploring how their roles, which are often framed in bureaucratic ways, can be redefined as capacity builders in a learning organization.

This conference is intended to support the development and work of District Design Teams and School Design Teams. District Design Teams and School Design Teams will meet in seperate sessions and in sessions dedicated for interaction between the District Design Team and their School Design Teams.

This academy is intended for teachers who have a solid understanding of the Working on the Work framework, have used it in their classrooms, and are ready to make a genuine contribution to building the capacity of their school districts to become learning organizations as well as to learn more about the role of teacher as leader and designer.

The 2008–2009 Working on the Work Conference will focus on using design thinking to transform classrooms and schools. A new twist this year will be differentiated keynote sessions and concurrent sessions based on the needs of our participants. The Working on the Work Conference is still open to all role groups at the school or district level.

This is a four-day intensive learning experience to develop individuals who will be qualified to coach teachers in their districts through the process of designing engaging work for their students. This session is limited to 20 participants.

The theme of this year’s Key Leaders Conference will be Leading with Integrity:  What’s At Stake for Key Leaders and School Districts?  We have learned that successful district participation in this conference requires the participation of the superintendent and a team assembled by the superintendent that could include school board members, teacher leaders, and other district leaders such as principals and central office leaders.

This academy is open to anyone who has attended the Marilyn Hohmann Principals Academy or a Schlechty Center district-based leadership academy. The Leadership Academy is the annual rendezvous for leaders who are seriously working on systems to create learning organizations in their schools and districts.
